We must be steadfast in--
1. The Apostles' Doctrine. We make disciples through teaching. The teaching of the Apostles' Doctrine is fundamental for the fulfillment of the Great Commission. We must be steadfast in the Word of God -- receiving it and sharing it. Each believer must day by day have an emphasis on the Word. (Deuteronomy 6:6-9)
2. In Fellowship. There are several meaning for the term fellowship in congregations. The fellowship mentioned in the text refers to worship. The main Christian fellowship occurs in worship. (Hebrew 10:25; 13:15)
The main concern for the Church today is the steady decline in worship attendance. More professed Christians are being distracted away from regular worship attendance. The secular weekend events have become a great distraction for believers. If we worship without passion and by habit only, than any attraction will lead us away from the Lord's fellowship. Steadfast Christians are dependable worshipers.
3. In Breaking of Bread. The early believers celebrated the Lord's Supper daily. Daily they received the means of grace that delivered the forgiveness of sins. The steadfastness in the breaking of bread implies that one is in constant self-examination. A steadfast Christian recognizes shortcomings and the need for improvement. It implies the constant receiving the forgiveness of sins. It implies the constant starting anew each day the Christian life. Finally it implies the beautiful assurance of mutual faith shared by all believers.
4. In Prayers. The early believers modeled the dependency of prayer. The steadfastness in prayer is for one another. The strength of the body comes from our constant talk with God for each Christian. Steadfast Christians pray for one another that the Word take hold and that fellowship may remain constant and that the Lord's Supper may be richly used and show its fruits in the life of Christians.
